Expect the Unexpected
Good morning,
Well, actually, it's just barely ... good afternoon,
Every Monday morning I send out an email to a list of people -- clients, former clients, friends, family. It's called Coaching Morsels. It gives them something to think about as they start their week -- hopefully something that will help them during this next week. It's just meant to be a bit inspirational. People have been getting it for years and I love doing it. It gets my week going too. (By the way, if you're interested, I'll add you to the list. Send me an email at ann@annfry.com and in the subject put: Morsels)
As I wrote my morsel this morning, I realized I wanted to expand on it here. It's very relevant. Today's morsel was about Serendipity. Here is what I said:
Do you ever experience serendipity? You know ... where you get an unexpected or accidental outcome? In my belief system ... that's the true outcome. You show up someplace for one reason, and what actually happens is something totally different. It's really cool. Keep your eyes open for these experiences. They are all around you. You merely need to open your eyes to see them.
Keep watch over the next week. Be aware of how time, place, direction collide to produce very different experiences than what you expect. Most importantly .... set your radar on high to receive these incidents. They might be personal. They might be business -oriented. However, they are always meaningful. They come in packages like -- meeting new people, seeing something that spurs a new thought, finding a place you never knew existed. It's fun AND exciting and a way to truly experience magic.
Happy Serendipity
What's relevant about this is that it happens to all of us, BUT, we're often oblivious. We're walking, driving, focused on ourselves and we miss what passes right in front of us. One of my all time favorite movies was Made in Heaven with Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGinnis. It's a classic. If you've never seen it ... rent it. Anyhow, there's a scene where the two of them are supposed to meet ... they are shown walking down the same streets, rubbing shoulders as they pass, yet oblivious to each other .... until they finally do. It's a scene that perfectly shows the concept of serendipity --- they ARE SUPPOSED to meet.
Another perfect movie about this is called... Serendipity ... with John Cusack.
What does this all mean? It means that perhaps there really is something or someone working behind the scenes to set things up for you. But, it you're not paying attention you'll miss it all. People are put in your path, or they are sitting next to you at an event. Signs are posted on boards ... with a message you're supposed to see. I know this sounds a little "woo woo," but consider those weird meetings you've had that were totally unexpected. Or, consider that you're walking or driving and you end up on a street where you find the perfect store or restaurant or someplace you've always heard about. Or consider that you're scanning the radio or TV at the perfect moment to see the perfect message. It happens all the time.
If you miss it, you might miss a possible romance, or friendship OR a possible new client for work, or a cute little outfit that was meant for you.
Point: Be totally open to your surroundings and all that happens around you. There are people, places, things that are destined for you to connect with. Don't miss them. Don't go through life unconscious. Be open, open, open. See what can occur.
When you don't what's next for you in your life -- ask. When you go to sleep at night, just ask outloud..."what's next?" I light a little tea candle each morning. And, as I light it I say, "Show me what's next and bring me the people you want me to meet."
The results are amazing.
Point: I LIVE MY SPACE FROM A PLACE OF "NOT KNOWING" ... I LOVE TO DISCOVER WHAT'S NEXT FOR ME AS I LIVE EACH DAY. IT'S SO EXCITING.
I suggest you keep a journal of your experiences when you live from this place.
Happy Serendipity.
Ann
